This is how I hope the boat will turn out.

After 8 months of Pandemic isolation, Cindy decided I needed a project to keep me busy. With my love of sailing and my perpetual need of crew to race my 31′ sloop, we thought that growing a crew might be a solution, so I decided to build a small sailboat to teach my grandchildren to sail. In October 2020 I discovered OffCenterHarbor.com, a website that promotes building and sailing wooden boats. This blog will document my journey. Click on the Blog page for details.

The boat’s designer named the boat Oonagh. “Oonagh was the mythical wife of the famous Irish giant Fin McCoul.  She was big and hardworking, clever and resourceful.  She could do what needed doing, if not by strength, then by cunning.”

Disclaimer: This is not meant to be an instructional blog. You should rely on Offcenter Harbor’s videos for that. This is my first boat building experience and I want it finished by spring, so I am moving ahead without waiting for the videos and figuring it out as I go. I am simply documenting my progress, good or bad, so maybe you won’t make the same mistakes I do.
